Sam Conboy spent his summer working at Circle IT HQ on a 3 month internship with our Service and Support Team. Sam is studying a computing course at Cardiff Metropolitan University and today is his last day at Circle IT before he returns to his studies at University.
The team have thoroughly enjoyed having Sam as part of the team, he has demonstrated passion and hard work throughout his placement and we all wish Sam the best of luck in his studies.
At first I was unsure of what to make of it, I hadn’t had much experience working in this sort of environment, but this was quickly overcome and I felt that I was part of the team from day one.
I have learnt a lot about IT systems in general and now have a much better understanding of managing those systems effectively. I have also experienced what it is like to work in an office for the first time properly and it has been great!
I have also experienced what it is like to be responsible for a project and see it through to its completion, working on the various parts and troubleshooting for users.
Working life has changed a lot for me, I was expecting a stricter environment and was pleasantly surprised to find it much more relaxed. At the same time, there’s that pressure to make sure that everything is correct and working, as well as the responsibility for your tasks.
I have enjoyed the team that I work with and the company feel in general, playing pool or table tennis on my breaks and working with others on the task at hand. I’ve also enjoyed the difference in the tasks and that they stretch my skills in different ways - from coding/formulating an excel spreadsheet to diagnosing an issue on a remote server.
I will miss the team the most but also the work, its unlike anything I have done before and would happily continue and do it again.
